Acceleration & Stick Handling Program
AGES 10 - 14 (2 groups)
Open to all skill levels - If you can't skate and handle the puck, you can't play!
RESIDENCE DATES: July 5 - August 20, 2010
At New "STATE OF THE ART" Sir Sandford Fleming College Residence
RESIDENCE FEATURES:
- Each residence unit has 6 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with showers
- Each residence unit has 1 senior staff per 6 players
- Each residence unit has refrigerator and all furniture
- On main floor of residence unit is laundry facilities, game room, and work-out gym
- Outside the residence includes basketball court, tennis court, soccer field and baseball diamond
- NEW! Swimming at the new Wellness Centre on campus
RESIDENCE INCLUDES:
(Sunday through to Friday afternoon)
- Check-in Sunday 4:00 pm at Sir Sandford Fleming College
- Check-out Friday 6:00 pm at arena
- 5 night stay over Sunday through Thursday
- 5 dinners Sunday through Thursday
- 5 breakfasts Monday through Friday
- 5 lunches at arena Monday through Friday
- Transportation between Residence and Evinrude Arena daily (5 minutes)
- Camper will be sent checklist of things to bring in June mailer
- Assistance in arranging airport shuttle
PROGRAM FEATURES:
August 16, 2010 - August 20, 2010
20 hours on-ice Monday to Friday • 4 hours on-ice daily
Morning 2 hours – power skating on-ice:
- hockey aerobics
- proper crossover development with CHE carousel
- parachute resistance training
- body awareness development with spring board
- emphasis on all aspects of skating – forward stride, backwards, agility, crossovers, stops, quick turns, power stride, mohawk turns, explosive starts
- overspeed training
Afternoon 2 hours – stick handling and controlled scrimmage:
- 1-1/2 hours stick handling, 1/2 hour scrimmage
- develop stick fakes and quick stick manoeuvres
- learn to be deceptive
- learn to protect the puck
- develop feet as part of puck control
- learn curl and drag skill with stick
- learn the power of peripheral vision
- use CHE-patented stickmen for putting puck through triangle and between opponent’s legs
- develop stick handling while skating backwards and while pivoting
- 1 hour off-ice training with emphasis on plyometrics and a CHE-patented Speed and Power program
- 1 hour daily recreation includes soccer, ball hockey, lacrosse, basketball and baseball
- daily lectures
- free daily lunch and an official hockey camp jersey
- video analysis on skating stride and shooting
- groups will be limited to 34 skaters and 4 goalies
- 6 instructors on-ice
